The next meeting of the parish council is Thursday 21st March 2024 at 7.45pm in the Ashlea Room in Stanstead Abbotts Parish Hall, Roydon Road.
The role of the Parish Council
The Council has an approximate annual budget of £40K per annum. The role of the Council is to support the people, community and environment of Stanstead Abbotts to thrive. This is achieved by supporting specific initiatives of importance to the community as decided by councillors and guiding members of the community.
The Council has specific responsibilities for the up-keep and development of the Children’s Playground, Outdoor Gym and Meadow in Stanstead Abbotts High Street and the CCTV in partnership with Hertfordshire CCTV.
The Council does not own or manage any buildings but they do own the red phone box on the High Street which currently houses a defibrillator, and the lock up unit in the Meadow. The Council also has its own Facebook page.
Council Structure
The Council has 9 elected Members and the Council meets a minimum of ten times a year. It has 3 committees, Finance and Policy which meets 4 times a year, Maintenance and Traffic which meets about 9 times a year and a Planning Committee which meets as required.
Councillors when elected hold office for 4 years, the next Councillor elections will be held in May 2023.
Meetings are held in the Ashlea Room at the Parish Hall on Roydon Road unless otherwise stated on the agenda.
